Scanner model supported: (ScanMust software) A3 600S(D2J) A3 600S(C9X) A3 1200S(D3I/D68/D69/D6x) A3 1200S(C9A) A3 2400S(D3K/D66/D6C/D6D/D6x) A3 2400S(D18) A31200HS A3F1200N A3F2400N D2J,D2I,D3K,C9X,C9A,D18...are the first 3 digits in the serial number for the model code of your scanner.
I have visited numerous online forums discussing the problems with older Mustek scanners and their incompatibility with new Macs, and encountered loads of people complaining about how Mustek's technical department completely ignore their pleas for help. I've emailed them multiple times and never received a single reply. It's now 2015 and your posts were uploaded in 2011, and although you may have found the VueScan software eventually worked for your old Mustek A3 USB scanner, I'm willing to bet it won't work on new Macs (like mine, which runs on OS 10.10 Yosemite software). I downloaded the VueScan software, but it was only compatible with 'Pro' models of the Mustek A3 USB scanners, not the standard model, so I uninstalled the trial version without purchasing it. You used to be able to download TWAIN drivers as plug-ins for Photoshop that enabled them to read the Mustek scanner devices, but they are no longer compatible with the latest versions of Photoshop (CC), because TWAIN can't handle the 64-bit interface. A German website, SANE, provided free drivers for a range of scanners, including the Mustek A3 USB, but the operator is no longer developing them.
There are hundreds of forums on the SANE webpage discussing users' problems with a multitude of scanners, including most of the Mustek ones, but no search facility to find the relevant topic. I scrolled through them for 30 minutes looking for a discussion on drivers for the Mustek A3 USB but gave up in frustration.
SANE now send people seeking drivers for old scanners to an American website, alioth.debian.org, who offer a range of drivers listed as 'sane-backends'. Ahh, but good luck making any sense whatsoever with that! I spent an hour researching which download - a.tar.gz file - might enable my computer to recognise the Mustek A3 scanner when it was plugged in. There was little in the way of intelligent information, but I narrowed it down to three possibilities, downloaded each in turn, but. The problem remained.
When I originally purchased my Mustek in 2008, I followed a series of instructions I found on a webpage to install drivers that allowed my Mac to operate the scanner. I found the original instructions online, but they are completely redundant now. So, the long answer is, I'm finding it impossible to operate my Mustek A3 USB scanner. Can anyone help me locate a working driver It is NOT a 'pro' model (i.e., not the 1200 or 2400 pro scanners). Thanks for your time. Thanks gsahli, but that was the webpage I visited to source my drivers - and found downloading them made no difference, the scanner still didn't work.
Tha scanner model type is the name I gave - Mustek ScanExpress A3 USB - that is its complete name. There are drivers available for other ScanExpress models, for example the 1200 Pro and the 2400 Pro, but it seems there are no longer any available for mine, despite the fact it's under five years old. Meanwhile, I have a scanner in mint condition, still in its box, that is absolutely useless, and overdue work that needs to be scanned and archived. I now have to save up $800+ and purchase another A3 scanner, which is most infuriating, but you can bet your life I'll never purchase another Mustek product.
Updating or installing your printer drivers using third-party driver-updaters is not recommended because official drivers will always be the best drivers for the Mustek 1200S scanner. Along with that, before downloading the Mustek 1200S scanner driver, you must verify the model number first. To download the driver, go to the download section below.
We assure you that the Mustek 1200S driver download links on this page are fully compatible with Windows 11, 10, 8, 8.1, 7, Vista, XP (32bit/64bit), Windows Server 2000 to 2022, Linux, Ubuntu, and MAC 10.x, 11.x, 12.x OS. That would be a one-click download link. To install it properly, see the installation guide.
We have mentioned all the operating systems supported by this Mustek 1200s scanner in our OS list given below. There are two models of the Mustek 1200S scanner: the 1200S C9A and the 1200S D2I. Follow the download steps mentioned below to get your Mustek 1200S driver setup file:
In this section, we have shared the installation guide for the full feature driver and the basic driver. Select the installation guide, which is appropriate for your driver type, then use its installation procedure to install your Mustek 1200s scanner driver.
2) Finally, Microsoft released Windows 11 on July 2021. The drivers on this website are being updated with Windows 11 drivers; this will be finished shortly. You can start downloading the driver from its download page. July 14, 2021
Thanks for your quick reply.I was working with this scanner and its USB cable for many years without any problems. Last week I updated my MacBook Pro from 10.6 to 10.8.3 and after that the problem appeared for the first time.I think it depends on the solution I decide to scan with. When I take the prescan everthing is fine. When I than take the final scan with 600dpi the resulting picture is unusable.Am I scanning with 1200dpi the picture is fine. Less than 600dpi I didnt try.I ever did my scanning with 600dpi under 10.6 with no problems. So I wonder what the reason for this behavior of the scanner could be.When I wont get a solution for this I have to look for another scanner like the Canon 600F that is usable with Canons software Canoscan 5.x under my iOS.
I have been using a Mustek 1200 large usb scanner with Photoshop 4 when I upgraded to a OS 10.8 Mac (and PS 6) the scanner now fails to register in Photoshop 6 or in Print/Scan Pref (i had twain installed) any ideas
NOTE: the issue I have is that after updating to OSX 10.8, my trusty CanonScan LIDE 200 was not available THROUGH Photoshop. I can, however, open and use the scanner via IMAGE CAPTURE. But I prefer to access my scanner VIA Photoshop.
I asked because I saw the response to René and wondered what he wanted to deinstall. I could very well imagine that having the software from canon installed alongside with the SANE drivers might interfere and leading to not working solutions for both softwares.
SANE shows up in scan&print of the System Prefs and if I use the application Image Capture I can do a preview with the scanner but cannot select the format and if I select a zone to scan, when I click the scan button nothing happens, only the dotted borderlines of the zone flashes up.I tried Photoshop also, installed the TWAIN plug-in which gives a similar window to Image Capture. And if I click the scan button, a message by PS is displayed:
as I am not a programmer, I do not make apps myselfwhat I did was just (re)posting the SANE-drivers that I had found on the Internet, so I will keep an eye out for OSX 10.9 Mavericks-compatible scanner-drivers
This tutorial and the links to the drivers is excellent. Thank you. I have an issue with my Mac running 10.8. I can only get undistorted scans at the highest resolution of 1200 dpi with my Canoscan LiDE 20 using Image Capture. All lower resolutions are distorted as though the scanned image was shifted to the side as it went. I have not used rotation settings.
It might also be you erratically downloaded the OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion version of SANE (you are posting in the 10.8 Mountain Lion post, not the 10.9 Mavericks one), but you need the drivers from the OSX 10.9 Mavericks version of SANE
My scanner is a Mustek Flatbed Scanner SE A3 USB 1200 Pro (It's big enough to scan comic board paper) and I know that Affinity Photo has an Acquire Image option which can allow me to scan my stuff but I don't know how to set it up. Do I need to have a special driver installed or there's a way to set up my scanner so I can scan through Affinity Photo
The Acquire Image option on the File menu uses the built in feature within macOS. Make sure your scanner is correctly installed in System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, make sure you have the latest drivers installed.
But the things is that for some reason my MAC can't seem to read my scanner. I've trying to find a driver that works with Mustek Flatbed Scanner SE A3 USB 1200 Pro on Catalina. Before, I was using ImageAcquire on Mojave and I had no problems using my scanner.
I've tried but VueScan couldn't find the scanner that I had hooked up to my Mac. Two years ago the same thing happened and I thought they updated the software so I installed it again & it still can't read my scanner (I've asked for a refund but they won't give it to me)

One option that might help is to run a virtual machine (VMware Fusion or Parallels) with Mojave (either from a previous backup or a clean install), connect the USB scanner to it rather than the host OS, and see if that will restore your access through \"Acquire Image...\" within the VM. Then scan to a shared folder destination to make the results available in both environments. 1e1e36bf2d
